Diamantina Power Station (DPS), 242 MW combined cycle gas turbine plant located south of Mount Isa, operates alongside Leichhardt Power Station, Thomson Power Station and the Dugald River Solar Farm to support reliable energy supply in the region.

Commissioned in 2014, DPS sources raw water under a service agreement with the adjoining mine. As APA's largest water user and operating within a region of high water stress, improving water efficiency is an operational priority.

Water is used across the power stations for cooling, fire protection, equipment cleaning, emissions control and site amenities. Consumption is monitored daily, supported by on-site laboratory testing and treatment systems to optimise water quality, efficiency and reuse.

In 2026, APA progressed a targeted program to further enhance water efficiency at DPS.

This included a comprehensive review of the site water balance to identify loss reduction opportunities, improvements to blowdown management to increase wastewater reuse, and optimisation of water chemistry to support greater recycling and reduce chemical use.

These initiatives are ongoing and are expected to reduce water demand, lower chemical consumption and minimise wastewater generation, strengthening water stewardship within a water-stressed region.
