APA continues to play a leading role in advocating for a stable, long-term approach to Australia’s energy security, grounded in the recognition that gas is both a strategic national asset and an essential partner to renewable energy.

Recent global events have reinforced the importance of Australian gas. As international supply chains faced pressure, the reliability of Australian gas exports helped strengthen Australia’s position with key trading partners and support access to critical fuels and fertilisers.

Domestically, APA has been a strong and evidence-based advocate for policies that unlock new gas supply, support gas-powered generation, and provide the investment certainty needed to keep the energy system secure as coal exits.

This includes support for a well-designed east coast domestic gas reservation scheme, the development of new domestic supply from basins such as the Beetaloo and Surat, and implementation of the Electricity Services Entry Mechanism to bring forward firming capacity.

With 15,000 kilometres of gas transmission pipelines, 884 MW of gas-fired generation assets and 773 MW of renewables infrastructure, APA brings a unique perspective across the energy supply chain, connecting producers, generators and customers.

Working alongside industry, customers and government, APA has helped build recognition that domestic gas supply and gas-powered generation are central to energy security, industrial competitiveness, and a smooth transition to a lower emissions economy.

APA is a strong voice and delivery partner in securing Australia’s energy future.
