APA Group (ASX: APA) and Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation Registered Native Title Body Corporate (KNAC) have signed a Project Agreement and Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) for APA’s Newman Renewable Energy Hub (NREH) on Nyiyaparli Country in Western Australia.

The NREH is a proposed large-scale renewable energy project near Newman, in the Pilbara region. Following extensive consultation and engagement between APA and KNAC since 2021, KNAC was authorised to enter into the agreements by the Nyiyaparli People at a Common Law Holders meeting in late November 2025, with final KNAC Board approval confirmed on 28 November 2025.

The agreements provide meaningful benefits to the Nyiyaparli People and establish an ongoing consultation framework between APA and KNAC for the life of the project, including in relation to social, cultural and environmental considerations.

APA CEO Adam Watson thanked KNAC and the Nyiyaparli People for their input to date to guide the development of the NREH project and said the agreements reflect a respectful and collaborative approach to engagement and consultation.

“The agreements are an important milestone in APA’s relationship with KNAC and the Nyiyaparli People and in the development of the NREH and will deliver mutual benefits for the Nyiyaparli People and APA.” he said.

“When operational, the NREH will provide wind and solar energy as well as storage through battery systems and support the transmission and distribution of renewable energy in the region.”

KNAC Chairperson Leonard Michael Stream said “These Renewable Energy agreements are a new thing for us and it has been a journey to achieve them. We appreciate working with APA since 2021 to make sure our knowledge and expertise have guided a good outcome for Nyiyaparli”.

The proposed NREH project is a large wind and solar project about 25km south-east of Newman. In addition to generation facilities, the project includes battery storage facilities, as well as transmission and distribution facilities.

The NREH project is in the development phase and APA will undertake further consultation with stakeholders and the community as the development plans are refined.
