Gruyere Microgrid
Commissioned in 2018, the hybrid microgrid was completed in 2022 and provides 64MW of combined sources of power reliably and sustainably to this remote location.
Sustainability and Environmental Impact
The Gruyere Hybrid Energy Microgrid shows that with the right technology and expertise, combining different sources of energy can deliver incredible outcomes, in both efficiency, reliability and energy security.
The use of solar and battery storage together significantly reduces the reliance on gas-fired power, leading to an estimated annual reduction of 16,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.
The hybrid microgrid's intelligent control system optimises the efficient use of all energy sources, ensuring they’re all working together and reducing wastage.
The microgrid provides essential and reliable power supply to the Gruyere Gold Mine, contributing to the economic stability of the region.
The microgrid's scalable design allows for the integration of additional renewable sources, enabling the Gruyere Gold Mine to further reduce its carbon footprint over time.
In selecting high power solar panels (530w), the land disturbance of the solar farm was minimised.
