Frequently asked questions
Program FAQs
We are targeting a phased go-live approach starting with our West coast customers from November 2026 and our East Coast and NT customers in April 2027.
Over the course of the program we will work closely with your designated contacts to ensure clear and effective communication. We will confirm your preferred methods for data exchange and provide support for industry testing and readiness activities. Additionally, training and go-live assistance will be offered to help your team navigate the changes smoothly.
Yes. We will conduct industry testing and training activities with all customers ahead of go-live to ensure a seamless transition to the new system and processes.
You can contact your account manager or email us if you have further questions or need more information or support.
Operational FAQs
It depends on the services you want to use and how your systems work. Now is the time to start assessing the impact based on the information APA has provided in this information pack and the build pack.
The grid will be represented differently in our updated systems, and the nomination data needs to reflect this. We are moving away from an ‘individual asset’ to a ‘Grid-based’ architecture, where transportation across connected assets within the grid will not require interconnection nominations. This will reduce the number of nominations you need to submit when transporting gas across multiple pipelines.
As a result of the new Grid-based architecture, there will be changes to the way customers nominate via the upgraded system. Specific examples include:
- Customers must nominate a ‘receipt’ on the same transport service as the ‘delivery’ nomination.
- This receipt-based hierarchy approach will provide APA with more detailed information to maximise capacity availability for our customers and comply with regulatory reporting requirements.
- The counter party and hourly quantity information is also part of the hierarchy.
SUG will continue to be calculated at pipeline level. Any SUG that is allocated to customers will be assigned to a receipt zone inventory that has been configured at contract set up (after consultation with the customer).
We expect to confirm this by 1 May 2026, in time for industry testing.
Yes, both are supported. Your choice depends on your system architecture, team’s experience, data volume, and whether you're planning to modernise. SFTP is generally better for handling larger data volumes.
APA Capacity trading (as distinct from AEMO Capacity trading) will not be supported via the API. Interconnect Counter party arrangements (Confirmations) will be supported by the API, both at an Operator, and counter party level. Nominating (including In Pipe Trading) and Hourly will be supported.
Technial FAQs
Industry Testing is system integration testing between your systems and APA’s. For example, you’ll submit a transport nomination via your system into AGDE, and APA will process it through our EC system, with responses available for you to retrieve.
Our current program roadmap has connectivity testing scheduled for April 2026 and industry testing for June 2026 for our West Coast customers. East Coast and NT customers can expect connectivity testing to be scheduled in October 2026 and industry testing between November 2026 and January 2027. Exact dates will be confirmed as we get closer to these milestones.
You should run your own system and connectivity tests to ensure your systems integrate smoothly with APA’s. It’s also important to develop test cases that reflect your business processes, including nomination data, services used, and how you handle errors.
Unfortunately, no. APA needs to complete specific activities to prepare the test environment for you. Delaying testing could impact the go-live timeline.
The initial build pack will be released in November 2025, covering Transport Nominations and In-Pipe Trade Requests. Additional features, like Interconnect Relationship Confirmation and Customer Data Requests, will be added in February 2026. Changes beyond that would only occur if defects are identified during testing.
SFTP is a more modern, simpler and secure protocol.
APIs offer modern tools for designing, building, and testing integrations. They’re ideal if you're looking to modernise your systems.
APA uses username and password authentication to better support the varied technical capabilities across our customer base. It’s simpler and more accessible.
