Dial before you dig

If you’re involved in construction or excavation work near a high-pressure gas transmission pipeline you must use the Before You Dig Australia service.

It is also important that you are familiar with the information presented in our Pipeline Safety Awareness video and Know What’s Below brochure. This information is for those who work in the vicinity of our assets, including utility company workers, local government workers, construction workers and land developers.

Before You Dig Australia

Before You Dig Australia (formally Dial Before You Dig) is a free national community service designed to prevent damage and disruption to the vast pipe and cable networks that provide Australia with the essential services we use every day: electricity, gas, communications and water.

Before digging, you have a legal duty of care to take all appropriate steps to identify, locate and protect gas pipelines and underground services from damage or interference due to your work. You must read all BYDA responses carefully and follow all directions to ensure you are meeting the utility owner requirements for asset protection.

Plan the work early. The first step is to request plans and information from Before You Dig Australia. This service is fast and free and operates 24/7.

Visit the Before You Dig Australia website at www.byda.com.au to lodge your request for plans. If you require assistance in lodging your online enquiry please refer to the BYDA help page. If further assistance is required, please call 1100.
