Environment Approvals

Environment Effects Statement (EES)

In 2021, we published an Environment Effects Statement (EES) - an evaluation of the potential environmental and social aspects of the project, and our proposed approach to managing the impacts.

The EES and all public submissions were presented to an Inquiry Panel, who considered the information and prepared a report for the Minister for Planning.

View documents prepared and published as part of the EES process here.

On 26 January 2022, the Minister for Planning released his Assessment. This Assessment has been provided to statutory decision-makers to inform approval decisions on this project, including planning scheme amendments under the Planning and Environment Act 1987.

View the details of the Assessment on the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action website.

Approval under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act

On 21 February 2020, the Project was deemed a Controlled Action by the Federal Minister for the Environment under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

EPBC approval was granted in 2022 and the necessary conditions required to enable the approval were met.

Further information about the assessment can be found on the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) website

Pipeline approvals

A Pipeline Licence has been issued for the Project under the Pipelines Act 2005.

APA has prepared a Pipeline Construction Environmental Management Plan, which details how APA will manage any environmental risks and impacts relating to the project. The plan also outlines how APA will consult and interact with stakeholders, particularly landowners and occupiers, who are likely to be affected by the Pipeline Project.

Reports and information prepared before statutory approvals were received are included here for context and background:
