south melbourne pipeline inspection and maintenance works
APA has completed a modification to the existing South Melbourne to Brooklyn pipeline, and installed additional facilities in Howe Reserve (near the corner of Station and Raglan Streets, Port Melbourne). Further works to be completed include pipeline maintenance and inspection works across the length of the South Melbourne to Brooklyn pipeline. These works will enable the pipeline to be inspected, gauged and cleaned in order to ensure pipeline integrity and continued community supply. Pipelines are normally inspected every 10-15 years.
This project has been extended to accommodate additional irrigation and turfing works, maintenance works on stormwater drainage pipes in Howe Reserve, and the refurbishment of the Remembrance Gardens by City of Port Phillip Council.
Project Timing and Progress
Earlier in 2019, APA undertook works in Howe Reserve and Cecil Street, South Melbourne, in preparation for the routine pipeline integrity inspections. In June, APA vacated the site and further maintenance work was completed by the council on site.
APA will be returning to site in mid-October 2019 to undertake the pipeline inspection and maintenance works. These works will occur at Howe Reserve, Port Melbourne; Cecil Street, South Melbourne; and Jones Road, Brooklyn.
No further works will take place in Smith Reserve, west of the Remembrance Gardens.
Activity will run until the end of November and may involve temporary road closures, traffic management and detours. Pedestrian access-ways around Howe Reserve and to the North Port tram stop from the Raglan Street and Station Road intersection will not be affected.
Regular communication will be made with the local community, including homes and businesses that may be impacted by the activities.
The reinstatement phase will take place at the end of our activity and will see the worksites returned to their original state.
All works are expected to be completed by December 2019.
